EDMONTON, Alberta – February 22, 2020 – Titan GPS, powered by Certified Tracking Solutions, a leading provider of GPS tracking and fleet management services, announced that they have been awarded an expansion to their existing contract with the Alberta Ministry of Transportation (Alberta Transportation).
Since 2017, Certified Tracking Solutions has been the provider of Alberta Transportation’s current real-time Automated Vehicle Location System (AVLS), utilized by Alberta Transportation’s highway maintenance contractors (HMC). The contract expansion, set to run through 2021, will provide development, data management, and support for Mobile Road Sensor Data Integration, also referred to as Road Weather Information System.
Advanced Road Condition Data with Mobile Road Sensors
Sensors equipped on up to 1,000 HMC vehicles deployed across 32,000+ km (19,883 mi) of rural provincial highways will give Alberta Transportation a clearer picture of road conditions. By measuring over a dozen data points, including air temperature, relative humidity, dew point, surface temperature, road friction, water/ice depth, and more, the advanced mobile sensors will provide an incredibly detailed representation of real-time road conditions, highlighting stretches of highway that require additional or urgent attention.
Mobile Road Sensor data may also be paired with the AVLS data already provided by snowplow trucks to enhance the information available on 511 Alberta, the province’s traveler information service, which will in turn further enhance the 511 mapping overlay available on the Titan GPS dashboard.
Titan GPS and Alberta Transportation
The pre-existing relationship between Titan GPS and Alberta Transportation was a key factor in the project. With Titan GPS already providing AVLS to Alberta Transportation, the development of the Mobile Road Sensor data integration came as part of a natural evolution of the service already provided.
“We are very excited about expanding our partnership with Alberta Transportation. This mutually beneficial partnership and working with exciting emerging technologies, such as Mobile Road Sensors, in a fast-paced, evolving market, is key to our ability to constantly innovate and expand our offering.”
–Ben Jensen Jr., CEO, Certified Tracking Solutions
The new contract exemplifies both Alberta Transportation and Titan GPS’ commitment to innovation and the adoption of new, advanced technologies in an effort to find efficiencies and provide better service for stakeholders.
